Default Need Help - Broken Nut on EGR Tube - Passenger Exhaust Manifold - Front

I replaced both exhaust manifolds on my 2000 V6. My car has air pump/smog system 'Green State' and has the extra EGR tube connection on the front of both exhaust manifolds. When removing the nut on the EGR tube at the front connection of the pass. exhaust manifold the nut split in half. I hit with tons of PB Blaster over the course of an hour beforehand mind you. The threads were pretty galled up and it was apparently fused on pretty good. Must've been cross-threaded at the factory(OEM Manifolds).

Is there anyway of replacing just the nut? I know it's a flare end fitting on there. I'm wondering if I can maybe cut the end of flare off the tube and get a replacement nut from HD or Lowes plumbing isles and try and find someone I redo the flare at th end. Anyone have any luck with repairing these w/o replacing the whole pipe? I can't seem to find this particular pipe anywhere. It connects from the front manifold and loops under the water pump and connects to a 'Block' where the driver's side pipe joins to. Thanks!

you will have to replace the tube, it wasnt cross threaded, they rust like that and the metal gets thin and breaks on removal.

Thanks, I did a search and found it here, looks like I'll have to check with a local dealer and order it. They call it an Air Injection tube.

Part is obsolete, tried a few diff. dealers and they've also checked their sources for obsolete parts.

Looks like I have to scrounge classifieds or yards that would happen to have a 99-00 V6 they're parting out. Or try and make a compression fitting connection in place that'll work.

interwebs search...

Expensive fugger but it's emissions. Looks to be about the same price no matter where you find it.

Verify it's the correct part number though, the letter/numbers before and after the 9B448 make a difference...

After searching I had no luck finding a replacement pipe. Called a few yards with 99-00 models and they weren't willing to spare the pipe as it's considered part of the engine assemblies they were willing to sell as a whole.

I ended up going to an industrial supply warehouse which was able to source a few compression fittings and a compression nut. The nut is metric thread and the tube 1/2" dia. Basically all plumbing supply parts are std threads and nothing was correct for diameter.

I still had to drill out the hole on the compression nut slightly, had to cut a small straight section from the tube out for the compression fittings and replaced the broken nut. It seems to work so far, but I think I may have a leak somewhere in the exhaust system. I checked the bolts from the Y pipe collectors and they are tight. Going to recheck the manifold bolts again.

There are shops that can make that tube for you, and if you are fortunate to find the nut, check with nut and bolt suppliers in your area, or hydraulic shops. They can make you something way better potentially.

The place I went to was a hydraulic/heavy equipment supply shop that does machining/building/etc. The place was a huge warehouse and they had countless types of fittings (hose, compressors, etc). The counter guy mentioned the flaring at the end of the tubing was peculiar and apparently formed a certain way which they could not replicate. It's flared out but also rolled over inside, I suppose to further help give it an air tight seal. Plus the tubing is stainless steel, more than likely 304 stainless. The nut was the correct size they gave me, however I still had to drill out the hole a bit to clear over the tubing. Next time I have the hood up and have a chance I'll take a few snap shots of what it looks like now.
