The Mitsu's are harder to mod than the Cobra, but then again this is a Mustang Forum so I don't know a ton about the Mitsu. From a racing standpoint Mitsu has better handling because of AWD but that also sucks for repairs. In a straight line, it's a toss up but it looks like the Cobra wins all the time if you put both S/C Cobra against any of the VR-4s. Add a few mods to both and I'm sure it would be hella fun!

compared to which year? The 03/04 Cobras are pretty quick. Most cars that have "weight reduction kits" have gone the cheap route and gutted the car for speed so that kills the show aspect of it. You would have to spend some serious money on either car to do it 'right' and still have a great show car.
So to answer your question, you could make the VR4 lighter and it could be as fast/faster but it would be cheaper to put money in the motor and keep the stock weight if you're looking for show and go.

well, i know the 91s can get into the mid 13s easily with a $200 boost controller. i don't see why the lighter 97 couldn't get into the 12s with that.
i'm basing that on my friend's old 91 stealth rt tt, which is the same car, but actually a little heavier.

well neither does a V6 Mustang but it doesn't keep the V8's from always bringing their ***** pump with them....
