7.5in VS 8.8in rear end
I am curious, I am thinking about doing a dial port S/C build in the fiture, What is the limit of the 7.5in rear end? Even the junkyards 8.8 rear ends are pretty pricy, I can go 3.73 and T-LOC diff for cheaper than a full 8.8in swap. BUT im not sure that the 7.5 will handle a S/C and 280rwhp. And I would be happy with the stock 8.8s 3.27 rear gears. Thoughts/opinions?

Do you plan to drag it? If so I dont know how long I'd trust the tlock with that much power. The stock one in the 8.8 is stronger as far as I know. How much do they go for down there? I've seen then as cheap as 300 here. If I was building the 7.5 I'd get a truetrac and 3.73s if your going fi

In Texas you should be able to find a complete 8.8" rear end with gears or CA's around $500 or so. I have seen a couple IRS's down that way for around $800 on CL too.
What kind of budget are you working with?
The 7.5" is lighter and can be built to hold a lot of power, you might want to focus on building it right.

Right now im working of whatever I get from side jobs, finishing up a costly home remodel that has severaly drained the budget. Did get enough cash this month to pick up a set of 17" Cobra R rims today, starting over accumulating the cast to get tires.
Right now im deciding what I want to do with the car, with the economy in its present condition and gas expected to hit $5 a gallon I expect to be stuck with the car, i WONT buy with the economy so bad, This car it paid for in Jan, so I will be making mods as I have $$$$.
I am working on dividing the mods into stages:
Stage 1:
CAI
Tuner
Exhaust
Wheels/tires
Stage 2:
Suspension
Rear end
Brakes
Stage 3: (???)
F/I 3.8 dual port (M112)
Cobra R hood
Cobra R front bumper
If things improve I can stop and upgrade to a different car before everything is complete, pretty much things are on a cost level, stage 1 mods are much mess expensive, they can be completed on the $$$ that trickles in now, by next year my financial situation will be much better, and I can go into stage 2 of the build. By the time I start stage 3 I will be debt free and owe nothing to anyone, so its questionable whether I will go into stage 3 or stop and upgrade after stage 2.
As for the rear ends, they range fron $450-$1250 depending on where and what condition. Ill end up shopping around for one. I am inclined to think the 3.27s are an improvement on my 2.73s, but will still retain decent fuel mileage that may be very much ffectedby the 3.73s, though im sure acceleration would be better with the 3.73s.
I know im grasping at mods that arent freasible as the present moment, but I am a planning type of person, I figure it best to research everything now because I want to know exactly what steps im going to take.
