Good idea. Im guessing that the stock "oil cooler" is in the rad?

Something like this?

I like the Hayden oil cooler kits, they are built well.
I picked one up for Aprils Passat to replace the coolant oil cooling system that tends to leak sometimes.

This is a very nice kit and a lot larger than the cheaper Hayden 459 kit.

woo thas espensive lucy! x_x

That system is very nice though, very simply and it looks quite strong enough to serve double duty as a trans cooler first and then swapping over to the oil cooler.

If your going to run it on the transmission you have to be sure to have good pressure lines like that kit looks to have, just think of it as an upgrade when you swap over to the oil cooling side of it.

I wouldnt call that expensive considering all the fittings and crap that comes with it.

Ill have to think about it. Got a 4.2 I would rather build first.

Ok, I just answered my own question with a little more reading.

The Hayden 1040 can be used as a trans cooler too, the lines are chemical resistant and high pressure compatible.

The Hayden kit is $55 cheaper but the fittings arent as nice as the Mishimotor.

Both have limited lifetime warranties.

From personal experience though, I tried to warranty a faulty electric fan back to Hayden (Through Kragen Auto Parts) and they woudlnt do anything for me. The fan went on, car overheated, tested the fan and brought it back still looking new and they said because I installed it that the warranty was void. A total WTF moment there. So it sits pretty and new, unused in a box in my garage.

As for Mishimotor, every time I came by a thread where someones radiator cracked, they always took care of them.

Warranty for Warranty, Mishimoto is better.

Ya know with our discount thats $20 off the price, and if you give them a call they might give you the $5 dollars for may.

That brings it to just a $30 dollar diff.

I think I would rather have the peace of mind of the warranty and better fittings over saving a couple dollars.

Man, now you got me wondering about the oil cooler on the Passat! lol
Oh well, at least its working good for now.

Its a much cleaner looking install too.

Do they have one with a bigger cooler though?

by mistake I posted this in the sixxer chat when we were talking about coolers.
I edited the post and put something else in its place. :P

In case you change your mind, here is the link to the Hayden at SummitRacing.

================================================== ==============

Since you probably dont have an O'Reilly's up there, here is the link to the Hayden 1040 on summits site.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-1040/

When I bought the kit for Aprils Passat the rubber hoses said "High Pressure" on them so they might be just fine for the transmission.

I like the fittings to the Mushimoto kit you posted but the volume of the Hayden kit.

I seen it before. One other question, when used as an oil cooler, how do you drain it when you change oil?

Lookin on Mishimoto's site, found a larger oil cooler. Price is nearing $500 tho.
