Default OH F*ck me I HATE California

Soooo looks like I wont be able to put the SC on my 95!I nearly myself when I found out that I could drop the 4.2 into the car, then slap the SC on top but after all that I would have to spend another 2K just to get the f*cking car certified that it will pass smog! Because no *factory 3.8 Mustang* came with a SC the car would have to be classified as a "kit car". In order for a "kit car" to be certified in California you have to take it to the CHP and have it inspected that it is safe to drive, you have to get it smogged at a California owned and run BAR smog shop, then you have to have it inspected at the DMV.....IF, if, I pass all that the state can still decide to denie me a smog certification.....

I was under the impression that because the SC was a 'factory' part it had a CARB number to match it already, so it should be fine????

Thats what I was thinking, but again I keep getting told I wont pass "visual" inspection because it didnt come on the car factory like that. California has very, very strict smog laws.

Who is telling you that?
Is it the DMV, CHP, CARB, Smog Tech or here say?

Its been a long while (About 6 years) But the last time I talked to a CARB Rep they said because its a supercharger designed for the motor that it would pass.
They went so far as to tell me that ANY supercharger that retained all EFI and smog and vacuum equipment that it would pass as long as it passed the sniffer.

I would call CARB and see what they may have to say.

judging by the whole "Kit car" thing I would be willing to bet that it was the DMV that told you that?

They told me that crap once when I was just asking about smogging my STOCK 95! LMFAO!

I ignored their crap, went and smogged my 100% stock and perfect running 95' and went back and got registered.
I swear, I think the people at the DMV just like to fu*k with people.

Thanks for the help Neo. Any idea where I could find the CARB numbers for the SC? If I have that number I wont be as worried about having it smogged.

I'd start poking around:

http://www.arb.ca.gov/homepage.htm

I'm fairly sure that there is something there that states b/c it's from the factory for that engine (not car), that it's been CARB approved.
