Default Modified Cross Shaft Needed For Gear Install?

Hi. On another forum, someone posted that to do a gear install on the 05 - 07 V6 you need a Ford Racing Modified Cross Shaft.
Any truth to this?

It depends on what differential you have. I have an Auburn and for gears 3.73 or higher it needs a modified cross shaft. When setting up the gears if they are not done exactly right the first time the cross shaft doesn't come out far enough to get the c-clips off the axles. That's what happened to me. I had problems with my 3.73's and they had to grind dow the ring gear to get the cross shaft out far enough to remove the c-clips on the axles. Needless to say I had to return to the stock gears until I get a modified cross shaft and go back to 3.73s.
