Default When does/should the gas light come on?

Hi all, just wondering when the gas light should come on in the 05-09 v6 Mustangs.

I have never seen mine come on (but it does light up for a second at start up) and have let my gas gauge very very close to the red line at E.

However, when putting gas in at that point, I can't get more than 14 gallons in so I'm assuming there is still almost 2 gallons of gas in the tank when it gets to the red line at E.

Does the gas light not come on until it actually reaches the E line?

Thanks,

Mine reads "50 miles to Empty" and the lights come at 50 on the dot.

So that is right at 2 gallons.

Lets see, the guage shows 1-16 gallons for E to F.
That means that the fuel senders read only till there is 1 gallon left.
The senders cant detect the fuel level when there is only 1 gallon remaining.
0% on the MSD DashHawk means the fuel level is below the fuel senders
and you have 1 gallon or less of fuel remaining.
100% means that you have 16 gallons or more of fuel.
The light comes on at 9% left according to the MSD DashHawk.
Thats 9 x .15 + the 1 gallon that the senders do not read equals
approx 2.35 gallons left when the light comes on.
The fuel tank on the S197s will hold 16+ gallons if you overfill it.
