It is of her '06 Mustang shifter assembly. The thin plastic part that slides along with the shifter has gotten stuck in the front and bent up in the back. While the car is in Drive the little red indicator makes it appear to be in reverse. How easy of a fix is this?

I've been looking online and can't seem to find any sort of replacement information, at least nothing OEM. I am pretty capable of doing it myself, seeing how I've done plenty to my Jeep but I am lost in the woods on her car. Any input would be great as to where I can find the plastic, an OEM replacement, etc.

You will have to remove the console. Two screws under the box lid in the back and pull off the top part after Carefully prying up the trim bezel evenly all the way around. Then pull forward on the side panels on each side of the radio and remove. Two screws under those and two 10mm nuts in the bottom of the box. Careful removing as not to scratch your radio. Then there is one T20 torx screw on the back of the T handle to remove. As you pull the handle off the OD wires will unplug. Two plastic clips hole the silver cover on, pop this loose and then the slider in question will come off with it. Make repairs and reverse process.
I don't think Ford sells just the slide piece, They sell the Whole assembly. You may not even need one, just put yours back in it's place. If it has to be replaced put a request in the want ads for one from someone who has pulled theirs and put in a TCI ratchet shifter.
The most common cause for this problem is some trash got down in there or someone spilled coke in it and the sticky stuff gummed it up. You may just clean it up and be okay.

OMG, what happened to that shifter? never mind I don't want to know, lol.
The pics weren't posted when I gave the last reply so now that I see it I can tell you that you are screwed. A little anyway, the black plastic piece that slides is one piece and since it is stuck in there on the front it has broken in two and will have to be replaced.
It's not going to be cheap from ford for the whole assembly. Even if you get the whole thing you will only need the top part, actually just the slider and indicator strip that is attached to it. If you change the whole unit you have to jack up the car and unhook the cable. Maybe you can find someone to sell their stock one to you.
This is the first time I ever seen or even heard of this breaking.

First, I recommend just replacing the entire shifter assembly. Go with the TCI ratchet shifter, it looks great and is a lot of fun.

But that being said... if you are just looking for a cheap fix, like V6Vin said, find someone who has done the TCI ratchet shifter replacement, and see about buying their old one. I still have mine (don't want to sell it yet) but I am sure there are others.

I have the same problem with my shifter. My wife spilled soda on it and soon after it broke. So if anyone is willing to sell me your old shifter I would really appreciate it. thank u

I believe there is a way to remove the plastic pieces on the shifter. If that is the case you can pull them off, sand them down with 600 grit, and either plastidip them or paint them (or some combination of the 2).
