Default 300 Horsepower and 48 Miles Per Gallon!!!!!

The new 3.7 liter 300 hp V6 Mustang just completed a 1000 lap challenge at Bristol speedway to see just how good the mpg can be. The results.

48.5 mpg, 776 miles and 1457 laps on a single tank of gas. Holy crap!!!

I knew it was impressive, just didn't think the numbers would turn out quite that high. I wish I wasn't in college and hadn't already sunk a lot of money into my '09 vert! : ( oh well, Shelby 'stang in a few years, here I come!

well I guess that means I didn't win the 2011 V6! I was a little off, only by 476 laps!

did anybody see anything about mph, what was there running speed for this? I think we will see drasticly lower numbers in real world driving.

But either way, that is impressive. Another + for Ford, take that Toyota.

I have almost 800 miles, my mpg so far is 17.2. Just a bit off of what they achieved.

My guess was 1,012, so I didn't come close to winning either. 2 3.7s would have looked nice in the garage.

I think it was at 45mph, which is not realistic at all.
It just shows the potential of the car.
The trick would be to built that tranny with close ratio from 1st gear to 5th.
Then really stretch out the 6th gear like .52 or something, get only 1500rpm at 80mph.

I believe the write-up said a steady 43 MPH. Considering our engines are super efficient for their size at about 1200 RPM, I'm not terribly surprised that the MPG # is a good bit higher than the EPA # but THIS is excellent. Unfortunately, nobody can repeat anything near that in real-life driving.

This is me going 60-70 mph going 25 miles to work on the highway.

Then with some very very sprinted driving I ended up getting a total of 30 mpg at the end...

Its hard to keep MPG focused when its just so damn fun to drive.
