Cool V6 Stang vs. G35

New on the forum, well not new, I've always loved mustangs so I've been here a lot, and now is the time to actually think about buying one. Problem is, I'm 18, still in high school, with a part time job. I can't afford a GT (Gas, Insurance, Maintenance) I am thinking about getting a 06-07 V6 with 50k-80k miles. Or I can go with a 03-04 G35 with 70-100k miles. What are your guys' thoughts on this? I probably will not have much money to start modding. Speed is not a huge issue, but I am young and would like to beat some cars at a stop light. I'm pretty sure insurance won't be much different, but can i get some input, any info would be helpful. Thanks!

What about a NE gt? It would be in the same price range (if not less) than a g35 or s197 v6. Insurance prob isn't that much different between the cars either. I would think the g35 would be the most. Also a NE gt in terms of speed is abou the same as a g35. Anyway just my 2 cents and welcome.

I had that battle recently and a few years ago. I got my Mustang and still have it. G35's are nice but I love Mustangs. I am also selling mine if you're interested I need to get a GT now so this V6 has to go

The V6 Mustang has so many more options in terms of modding over the G35.
It really depend on what you want, OP.
Are you going to want a car that you can eventually start to do visual or performace mods? If so the Mustang sounds like the way to go. The possibilities for these cars is pretty endless. You will be hard pressed to find any 2 cars on this forum that have the same perfomace and appearance mods.
Get a G35 if you just want something to drive.

Reason I would never trade my Mustang?
There are a lot of Mustangs running around, but I have yet to see even 1 that looks just like mine.
That's the advantage to having a modded Mustang.
Its fun to drive and they are relatively cheap on insurance too.

Thanks for your inputs. As for the NE GT, I'm really not interested in another v8 right now especially because I drive a jeep grand Cherokee and it gets me 8mpg. Chicago is not the best place for a v8. Plus i really like the s197's

Tanner, your car is nice, and if I could afford to buy a nice stang and do my own thing to it I'd jump right on that. Unfortunately it's not like that. So either I'd be that one stock mustang guy or that one stock g35 guy.

Jcon, love the color combo, but I can't do verts

Just fyi the 4.0 and 4.6 in the 05-10 get similar gas mileage... At my local dealership when the 2010's came out they actually had the same MPG on the window stickers.

Actually, if you're willing to consider the G35 coupe, you may want to consider the 350z unless you really need a back seat. They are essentially the same cars, same engine etc. The G35 is 8" longer to accomodate the back seat, gets worse gas mileage and is slower because it's heavier than the Z. Plus a decent Z can be found for $10K if you look around. I like the 03-04s best. They are the lightest and have a bunch of stuff you can do to them. First thing I would do to a Z would be the MREV, CAI, Nismo exhaust, forged wheels (if not already included) and you'll have a very nice and fast machine for cheap.

i am and always will be a z fan, i owned my datsun before my stang. Theyre pretty different cars. My ex has a 04 z33, Id drive both. the g and the stang. In my eyes theyre different cars. They drive different and just feel different to me. Go drive both and see what you come up with.

A Z and GT will have similar insurance rates. The only reason to get a V6 Mustang or a G35 would be lower insurance.

If you get a G35 coupe (vs sedan) insurance will still be high. Most insurance companies rate Coupe cars (2-doors) at a higher rate than sedans because the sedan is considered a "family" car.
