So Bakerjd go ahead and order the Blizzaks, don't use tire chains.

I looked online at the 06 Mustang manual and it does NOT distinguish between the GT and the V6 when it comes to tire instructions.
Here is what it says:
Snow tires must be the same size and grade as the tires you
currently have on your vehicle.
The tires on your vehicle have all weather treads to provide traction in
rain and snow. However, in some climates, you may need to use snow
tires and chains. Use chains on the tires only in an emergency or if the
law requires them.
Follow these guidelines when using snow tires and chains:
• Chains may damage aluminum wheels.
• Use only SAE Class S chains with P215/65R16 tires on the rear of the
vehicle only.
• Do not use tire chains with size P235/55R17 or 235/50R18 tires. Use of
SAE Class S chains or other chain types may damage your vehicle.
• Install chains securely, verifying that the chains do not touch any
wiring, brake lines or fuel lines.
• Drive cautiously. If you hear the chains rub or bang against your
vehicle, stop and re-tighten the chains. If this does not work, remove
the chains to prevent damage to your vehicle.
• If possible, avoid fully loading your vehicle.
• Remove the tire chains when they are no longer needed. Do not use
tire chains on dry roads.
• The suspension insulation and bumpers will help prevent vehicle
damage. Do not remove these components from your vehicle when
using snow tires and chains.

Check your owner manual Blacksmoke - I bet it isn't snow TIRES but CHAINS that it says to avoid. Snow tires aren't a problem and lots of people run with the Blizzaks. I've been considering picking up another set of wheels and trying some Blizzaks this year to see if they are that much better on my commute this winter.
So Bakerjd go ahead and order the Blizzaks, don't use tire chains.

Just noticed that and posted about it THEN saw your post lol!
Sorry about the faulty information at first everyone.

I drive mine all year in MI. I have a set of Michelin ice-X winter tires on a set of 03 GT rims. This winter will be my 3rd with this setup. I have never gotten stuck. I put a couple hundred lbs of sand in the trunk on days when it snows. Just drive carefully, drive for the conditions and you will be fine. The TCS system works well too.

I test drove a 2011 V6 manual trans before I bought my 2012. It handled very well in the snow. I stopped on a hill with 3 inches of snow, had no trouble starting back up.
The manual trans helps, the 3.7 is really tame under 3,000 RPM, and the engine down shifts smoothly enough that you shouldn't have a problem locking up the rear tires when you down shift. I test drove the performance package with the 19" summer only tires, I would recommend winter tires.
Btw, you'll save a lot of hassle and money if you have a spare set of rims and air pressure sensors.
