widest tires on stock 17x8's

I have a 07 gt and I was told that this weekend when I was priceing tires out that 245's would be the widest in front but I thought I could go as wide as 255's all around if anybody knows what is true please let me know thanks

255's will work all the way around.

Colin is correct.

I think your wheels are 8.5" and rated for a 255 tire. You have LOTS of room under there, so you will not have any rubbing or clearance issues.
