Question Winter wheel and tire choices

I have a 2012 GT Brembo and am interested in a good set of snow tires. This is my DD and in Madison, WI we get a bit of snow, they do a great job in cleaning out the snow but I still want a great snow tire. I have precious cargo to take to daycare in the AM so I want a tire that will have superior traction on snow & ice. I have chosen the wheels, they are the Sport Edition F10’s from tire rack. Luke has confirmed that they will fit Brembo 5.0’s ($129 ea). As for the tires I’ve been reading up and it looks like the Blizzak WS60 or the Michelin X-Ice Xi2’s may be the ones to go with. What do you think?

Once the tires are decided on the next question is tire size, I know thinner is better but how thin can I go on the Stang and still keep it safe? What about profile, 40-60 options on some; is short or taller better? The tire size may dictate which tire I get since the options in 18’s are limited (below)

Thank You

Oh... your links are no good. Out of curiousity, I copy/pasted them to Notepad to see if I could cypher a short cut to the actual page you found:

h.t.t.p://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=15&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fmustangf orums.com%2Fforum%2Fwheels-and-tires-brought-to-you-by-tire-rack%2F653599-winter-wheel-and-tire-choices.html&v=1&libid=1316525702810&out=http%3A%2 F%2Fwww.tirerack.com%2Ftires%2Ftires.jsp%3FtireMak e%3DMichelin%26tireModel%3DX-Ice%2BXi2&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fmustangforums.com%2Ffor um%2Fwheels-and-tires-brought-to-you-by-tire-rack-75%2F%3Fpp%3D20%26sort%3Ddateline%26order%3Ddesc%2 6daysprune%3D-1&title=Winter%20wheel%20and%20tire%20choices%20-%20MustangForums.com&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tirerack .com%2Ftires%2Ftires.jsp%3FtireMake%3DMichelin%26a mp%3BtireModel%3DX-Ice%2BXi2&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13165259097505
... indeed, I could not

I am thinking...

X-Ice

Blizzak

I am happy to see you going with a second set of wheels for snow/ice and seems to me I may have recommended/aggreed with your idea to do so. I am a high-performance Summer tire guy, but have heard great things about both those particular tires and especially the Blizzaks. As for profile, I cannot say how this effects grip, only that thinner is better than wider, as you mentioned.

Anyway, hopefully someone will chime in and be able to use the links I fixed to help with a decision. It would be helpful to give us the all the dimentional info of your new wheels to help find a good size to run on them.

Can I use 225 or is that to thin a tire?

What width of wheel are you planning to run?

I see no issues running that tire, so long as it is rated to run the weight of your car and the wheels are somewhere in the 7"~8" range (a couple other factors can come into play with this)

Would need a little more details on wheel info, and maybe even the OE size tire the car came with.

Blind recommendation 235/50R18 Blizzak's

And lets use narrower and not thinner in this reference.

Thinner most people start to think, sidewalls.
