Which Performance Tires?
Hey guys,
Getting a staggered summer setup for the stang, and am looking at tires. The website I'm looking at only has a few selections for the wheel setup I want, so what do you guys think? I looked at the stickied thread, but didn't see too much on these:
Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K100
Continental ContiExtremeContact DWS
Pirelli PZero Nero A/S
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT
Leaning more towards the Pirelli's, because I have seen those have a decent reputation. Has anyone tried the Dunlops before? This will be used in the summer, possibly light rain, for cornering with some straight-line autobahn high-speed runs as well.
Thanks!

Hm. Site has them listed all in a "performance category". Which are your two performance tires then, and which do you recommend?

Which of these activities do you want the best performance? Straight line and twisties are VERY different directions, when looking for very good tires. I see in your sig, you are looking to give a serious bump in HP/T soon. This means, you want to have lots of grip in which to contain it. Reading your original post again, it appears you need more of a corning tire than a straight line one.
Exactly what size tires are you looking to buy (all three numbers please on both front/rear) and what is your budget?

In order of what I think to offer the best lateral grip performance:
1. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT
2. Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K100
the below would be WAY down on this list, IMO
3. Pirelli PZero Nero A/S
4. Continental ContiExtremeContact DWS
Any of these tires will be fine in the wet. The first two are not going to do as well, but offer MUCH better dry grip in all circumstances. The last two, as Luke mentioned, are A/S tires and who's main focus is heavy wet and probably light snow.
Luke can offer better inside specifically, as he is a tire dealer and I have never driven any of those tires.

Don't worry about a little sprinkle or even rain in any of the tires listed Now, the reverse order will be better suited for such conditions, but I run the following tires on my car from April~October and in the rain/wet many times:
These are DOT approved race tires and are a mono-block tread pattern (tread pattern being the single bittest factor in addressing wet surfaces) and have been around Infineon in Griggs race car with driver taking corners at 75 MPH+ on a massively rain-soaked track with 305's on all four corners and was fine:
We actually spun out off the track twice, but was haulin' *** fo sho!
Now, compare the tread pattern of the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K100:
Just drive more conservatively and not a problem. No worries... you will be fine
