2024 Ford Mustang Reborn with Most Powerful 5.0 GT Ever!!! (and There’s a DRIFT MODE???)
The 2024 Ford Mustang is here. It is packed with technology and performance features that will make it the most exciting Mustang generation ever.
The Ford Mustang is the world’s best-selling sports coupe for seven years running. So, to say it is popular is an understatement. But the current generation Mustang is getting a bit long in the tooth. Now the seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang has been revealed and based on what we know it will have no trouble holding on to the title of best-selling sports coupe for several more years. You want power? The 2024 Mustang GT will be the most powerful ever. You want technology? There is a digital cockpit inspired by fighter jets that features two large customizable digital displays. You want fun? How about a drift mode and Remote Rev that will let you rev the engine remotely using the key fob.
If the above sounds exciting, just wait. We haven’t even touched on the new exterior and interior design. And for those of you that like to make the Mustang your own the 2024 Mustang will be the most customizable Mustang ever. There is a lot of news to cover so let’s dig right in.
Engines
Ford and the rest of the entire automotive world is rushing to make all-electric cars. That can be a major concern to traditional Mustang fans. Well, Ford has some very comforting news. The 2024 Mustang GT will be powered by the fourth-generation Coyote 5.0L V8 engine. This new V8 will produce more naturally aspirated horsepower than any Mustang GT in history. Part of this power boost is thanks to a new dual air intake box and dual-throttle body design. No specific horsepower number was provided but considering the 2021 Mustang GT was good for 460 horsepower it is a safe bet to say the new model will produce at least 470 horsepower. The good news continues as Ford will still offer the 6-speed manual transmission as standard. On the GT it includes standard rev-matching. The 10-speed automatic remains an option.
Those who don’t need the V8 or just want something a little more efficient will be happy to learn that the EcoBoost model will be powered by an all-new, four-cylinder turbocharged 2.3-liter powertrain.
Performance Pack
“Mustang GT and EcoBoost models are both available with an optional Performance Pack, which adds a host of track-focused features, including a front Tower Brace, Torsen Limited Slip differential and optional MagneRide active suspension, wider rear wheels and tires, and larger,390-millimeter front and 355-millimeter rear Brembo brakes. The GT Performance Pack adds brake ducts for even more enhanced cooling and a standard auxiliary engine oil cooler. Performance Pack also offers optional Recaro seats and active exhaust.”
Drift Mode
Want to show your friends that you can drift as well as Vaughn Gittin Jr.? Well, that is a piece of cake thanks to the new electronic drift brake. This new feature will be included in the Performance Pack on all 2024 Mustang models. With it, you will be drifting like a pro in no time. “This is the most athletic and confidence-inspiring Mustang EcoBoost and GT to drive yet,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Mustang chief nameplate engineer. “Whether driving an automatic or manual transmission, thanks to drive modes combined with fine-tuned digital engine, suspension and steering controls, we’re now able to give drivers peak performance everywhere, from their favorite roads to their local track.”
Style
One look and there is no mistaking this for anything but a Mustang. But the seventh-generation Mustang has an edgier and more muscular look. It also draws on its extensive history and pays homage to some classic Mustang design cues. The design is not just for looks. It is functional as well. The roofline is optimized for driver entry and exit without removing their helmet on the track. “Both the EcoBoost and Mustang GT have unique styling cues that deliver on their promise of Mustang Performance,” said Christopher Walter, Ford Mustang design manager. “The new Mustang is more chiseled and edgier, leaning into Mustang’s classic brawniness and timelessness.” The 2024 Mustang will launch with 11 exterior color options. Vapor Blue and Yellow Splash are two new colors. The Brembo brake calipers can also be painted either Black, Red or Grabber Blue.
Customization
Besides the color choices you can also select from an all-new lineup of alloy wheel options. You get 17-inch wheels as standard on the base model. On the GT you get 19-inch wheels as standard, and 20-inchers are optional. The 2024 Mustang will offer further customization options via the new Mustang Design series. The Bronze Design Series Appearance Package adds Sinister Bronze alloy wheels with bronze badges, and is available on both EcoBoost and GT models, with or without the optional Performance Pack.
Interior
The interior of the 2024 Ford Mustang has been completely revamped. From behind the new flat-bottomed steering wheel, you will get the sense that you are in a fighter jet. There are two flowing and curved displays that can be customized to display the information that you want. The display uses the same Unreal Engine 3D creation tool used in modern video games. “We’re taking advantage of every pixel,” said Craig Sandvig, Ford Mustang interaction design manager. “We can be creative in showing necessary driving information and give the driver control of selecting colors, classic Mustang gauges or even a ‘calm’ screen where only minimal details are displayed.”
Technology
The 2024 Ford Mustang is loaded with technology. It comes equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360 features, including Speed Sign Recognition, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering Assist, Evasive Steer Assist and Reverse Brake Assist. Another key feature is Active Pothole Mitigation, included with the Performance Package, which continually monitors suspension, body, steering and braking input and adjusts suspension response accordingly. The Sync 4 system includes Amazon Alexa Built-In. That is all good, but the most fun tech feature has to be Remote Rev. This allows you to rev the Mustang’s engine remotely using the key fob.
Sale Date
The all-new 2024 Ford Mustang goes on sale in the U.S. starting in the summer of 2023. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date. Based on everything we know at this point the seventh-generation Mustang is going to be a big hit for Ford. And with the light fading on manual transmission V8-powered cars this may be the last traditional Mustang you can ever buy. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by.
