The Ford Mustang has been around for a long time now. And its face has changed quite a bit since 1964. To be fair, you probably don’t look the same today as you did back then either. But that is ok, change is good. Well, sometimes it is good. Let’s be honest, the real appeal of the Ford Mustang is performance. Give us a thundering V8 engine and a manual transmission and we are happy. But the way the car looks is also important. And nothing sets the tone of exterior design like the grille. It is the face of the car, and it really defines the entire look. Ford has given us some fantastic Mustang grilles over the years. On the other hand, they gave us some duds too.

Today we are looking back through history and listing what we feel are the five best and five worst Mustang grilles of all-time. There are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, the list is purely subjective. Everyone has a different opinion on looks so just because we list a grille as the best or the worst doesn’t mean it is. If you love it or hate it, that is all that matters. Second, just because we list a grille design as the best or the worst, doesn’t mean the car itself is good or bad. We are considering the look of the grille only, nothing else.

And finally, Ford gave us many more good grilles than bad. We could easily select 10 or 15 best Ford grilles, but we wanted to keep it balanced so we limited it to just 5. As a result, we know some great ones are not included. If you have a favorite that is not here, please let us know. Now, on to our list.

#5 Worst – 1984 – 1986 SVO

We start off with a bit of a controversial pick right off the bat. The SVO Mustang is a cool car and is still underappreciated for what it is. But remember we have blinders on and are focused just on the look of the grille and nothing else. We are sorry, but the grille on this car is not great. In fact, if you didn’t know any better and someone told you this was an EV you would believe them, because this looks like an EV grille. It is not the worst of all time, but it is one of them.
