Boss 302 vs GT350

Two reps from an established tuning house go toe-to-toe. But when it comes to the Boss 302 vs the GT350, which wins? Watch and find out.

When it comes to Mustangs, the Boss 302 and the GT350 are two of the baddest Ponys the Blue Oval has ever produced. Off the shelf? Either one is a wicked weapon. And when it comes to track work? They’re formidable machines, with limitations far north of what mere mortals can extract from the package Dearborn delivered. So for the sake of clarity, the examples profiled in this latest video from our friends at Streeda aren’t stock. Far from it. Both have been built to the gills.

On that note, head Streeda technician Jamie was running his Boss 302. It boasts a host of track-focused upgrades, including an engine tune, long-tube headers, coilovers at each corner, and adjustable sway bars. For those keeping score, this car has never been a daily driver. Since delivery, it’s only seen about 3,800 miles — but unlike most Mustangs of this vintage, the lion’s share of those have been on track. And when you see Jamie driving it on the autocross course at the SCCA Nationals, you’ll understand — those were not easy miles. Whether the home-built spoiler is working as intended? That’s up for debate.

In the opposing corner, we have the GT350. It’s being fielded by presenter Chris, and it’s his personal car. As you’d imagine, this Pony has also gone under the knife. Meaning Steeda threw the book at it. Under the skin of that thoroughbred is basically everything the established shop offers for the S550-generation Mustang. So if you’re curious? It’s not like everything hasn’t been dialed in. Included in that are tweaks to the ride control system, which is witchcraft. Remember: These are the binary bits Maranello bought from the General.

Now obviously, the big question here is which one will win? And if I were looking at this from a bench racing perspective, I’d be tempted to put my money down on which driver I’d talked to. Because since the specs are so close, the checkered flag will be decided, as it has been for ages, by the best driver, under conditions. That said, watch the video, and have a wonderful Christmas!
