2024 Mustang Horsepower Numbers Are OUT… and It’s Great News!
When a leaked Monroney sticker showed no 2024 Mustang horsepower gains, people freaked out. Turns out, there was nothing to fear.
Two weeks ago, I posted about a leaked window sticker that purported to show 2024 Mustang horsepower figures with no gains over the 2023 model year. It made exactly zero sense to me, particularly since at the launch, the Blue Oval said more ponies were on the menu. At the time, I speculated that this was nothing to worry about, and most likely a typo. And guess what? In a dazzling turn of events, I was totally right!
Because the numbers are out, and now we know exactly how much more powerful the next-generation Mustang will be. So here we go. The EcoBoost will have 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, which is five more ponies, and the same amount of torque than the outgoing model. With a combined fuel economy rating of 26 mpg, it’s also slightly more efficient (the current model is rated at 25). Per Ford, that makes it the most powerful base Mustang ever.
But everyone was most curious about the GT, and it gets a more robust bump. Base GT models will ship with 480 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque, and models with the optional active exhaust 486 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque. Now, I can’t imagine even the most sensitive butt dyno could feel the difference, but unless you’re deaf, the upgrade will be worth it.
As we already knew, the Dark Horse Mustang will be the most powerful of the lot — at least until the maniacs at Shelby get ahold of the new hardware. The range-topper will have 500 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque, along with some track-ready kit and unique styling bits. So all told, every Mustang with have more power. And for the record? My prediction was off by 18 horsepower and 8 lb-ft of torque — which is an error I can live with.
