Can You Believe This Rat Rod Is a Mustang?

This Rat Rod Is What Happens When a ‘56 International Pickup and a 2009 Mustang Collide

If you ever find yourself stuck with a wrecked Mustang, remember this: everything is salvageable.

You need look no further than this insane rat rod for proof. Yep, this wild piece of machinery was constructed from a wrecked 2009 Mustang and a ’56 International pickup, as highlighted in a Car Buzz report.

In fact, even if you aren’t a fan of Mustangs, it’s hard not to like this spin on the Ford pony car.

The owner of the rat rod, Michael Bowens of North Carolina, says the car was actually built by his dad, Tony Bowens, as detailed in a Drivin profile. Apparently, the goal was not to do a “traditional” rat rod, but rather to build something a lot more adventurous.

“He wanted something cool and comfortable that gets attention that he could drive cross country if we wanted,” says Michael Bowens.

Well, we think it’s safe to say: mission accomplished. Just look at this thing. Hard to believe it was actually made with a Mustang, right?

Okay, sure, it’s the International pickup features on the mod that really make the thing stand out. But it’s the parts from the 2009 Mustang that make it go. The car, known as “Project InterStang,” is powered by a donor Mustang 3V engine with air ride suspension and full Mustang interior.

Michael says his dad started building the car in 2009, and he’s been driving it since 2015. We can’t be the only ones who are envious of this guy right now. Right?
