Meet Charge, the All-electric, AWD Fastback Mustang
British company Charge Automotive designed a futuristic, Tesla-style 1960s-era pony that’s a surefire debate starter among Ford fans.
It’s hard to imagine a car as iconic as the Ford Mustang going full EV. But after seeing this video, we are definitely impressed. This electric Mustang, modeled after what appears to be a 1967 Shelby GT 500, has not lost its character, and has lots of cool upgrades that make this a very exciting prospect.
Designed by new British company Charge Automotive, the redesigned 1960s-era Mustang is available in Fastback or convertible. The body has been officially licensed by Ford. It has maintained the classic design, but added a few new interesting details.
Custom interiors add a decidedly luxurious style. But the high-technology and digital interface is what makes this car truly shine.
It has a menacing, speed demon style that comes from pure Stang DNA. To that end, Charge gave the car some true Mustang capability. The 300 kW electric motor ensures that this car can hit 0 to 60 mph in about three seconds.
There are only 499 of these EVs made, and if you’re in the market you can reserve yours now. Unfortunately, that’s the downside. One of these will run you about $250,000. Yikes.
But we are excited to see that electric technology can work in solid muscle cars like the Mustang. If this is a glimpse at the future, we’re feeling a little less dubious about EV technology. We’re also thinking, can we take this for a spin?
