Dumb Mustang Street Racer Spins and Nearly Wrecks

By -

The driver accidentally downshifted into first at over 100 miles per hour. That’s when everything got ‘real dog nasty.’

We have to preface this by saying that street racing is incredibly dumb. This particular Mustang owner is also incredibly dumb, and that’s why – we assume – he’s out street racing.

This Mustang wreck didn't need to happen.

Whatever the reason, he’s also dumb enough to accidentally downshift into first while trying to accelerate on a straight stretch of highway. Because of this gaffe, the rear of the car steps out and he almost punches his modified 5.0 ‘Stang right into the Jersey barrier lining the roadway. Instead, he innocuously spins to the other side of the road and ends up in the ditch.

Making matters worse, the video claims that he was traveling at over 100 miles per hour at the time. If he downshifted to first at that speed, he’s lucky he didn’t explode his entire drivetrain. The jury is out on how awful of a driver you need to be to downshift into first at triple-digit speeds, but the answer is somewhere around “pretty awful.” This guy is lucky he didn’t kill his car, let alone crash into the Cadillac he was racing in the next lane.

If you’re going to go drag racing, do the responsible thing and head to your local drag strip for some fast passes. If a quarter mile isn’t enough for you, find a runway racing event with half-mile or full-mile races. Need more than that? Head to Bonneville. And always use proper safety gear so you don’t end up dead. Your life isn’t worth the so-called bragging rights from street racing.

Don’t be an idiot. More importantly, don’t be this idiot.
