Matt Farah Gets Flirty With Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R

It might be odd thinking of something that’s $61,000 at its base price as a bargain, but the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R is exactly that. There’s a reason The Smoking Tire host and /Drive test driver Matt Farah starts off this review video by calling it the greatest Mustang ever built.
It has a 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine that produces 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque and revs to 8,250 rpms. This is the same engine and power as the regular GT350 (the GT has a different engine), but it’s the suspension, weight savings, and chassis that really separate this car from everything else.
The GT350R has a TREMEC 6-speed manual, a TORSENÂ differential, magnetic shocks, the wheels are carbon fiber, 15.5-inch Brembo brakes, and it features “the greatest exhaust ever installed onto a car,” according to Farah. Seriously, he’s giddy like a kid in this video, it’s fantastic.
One more incredible fun fact before you watch the full video: Ford claims the GT350R has more downforce at 100 mph — thanks to a restructured nose, tail, and body — than a Porsche 911 GT3. Considering the GT350R is more than $100k cheaper, that’s absurd.
