Get Ready: Mustang Mach-E GT Order Books Open April 28th
While it’ll officially be available to order, scoring a high-performance Mustang Mach-E GT is going to be tough.
Right now, the Blue Oval is only taking reservations for the high-performance Mustang Mach-E GT. But on April 28th, those reservations are going to become orders, which is the next step to actually getting them into the hands their new owners. The development was confirmed by our friends over at The Drive, who reached out to Ford after seeing rumblings about the date on an enthusiast forum.
Given that the global chip shortage — not to mention the ongoing pandemic — has been wreaking havoc on global auto production, this is great news.
It case you’ve forgotten, the hot rod version of Ford’s first clean-sheet electric vehicle is going to be a proper beast. Base models will have 480 horsepower and a whopping 600 lb-ft of torque on tap, while the more potent Performance Edition models will get an extra 34 lb-ft of twist. Importantly, both flavors will be able to make the sprint from zero to 60 mph in less than four seconds. The standard model will do it in 3.8 seconds, while the Performance Edition shaves three tenths of that time. Not all that long ago, those were supercar stats.
As you’d expect, the earliest folks to reserve a Mach-E GT will be first in line to receive their vehicles. The question now is how many of those reservations will actually convert into orders, as all that was required to secure a place on the list was a $500 deposit. Since it’s fully refundable, that makes it a fairly low-stakes proposition, and I’d bet there’s a not-insignificant percentage of folks who plunked down the cash without thinking the purchase through.
So if you’re a serious buyer that’s just now joining the fray? Depending on how the chips fall, you might actually be able to get one before the end of the year.
While I haven’t gotten the chance to get behind the wheel of the Mach-E, I’m expecting to test in the next couple of months — and I can’t wait. Driving the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio a couple of years back proved to me that a crossover can be an absolute hoot on a twisty road, and I’d bet that the Mach-E will be far more than a straight-line machine. Of course, it might be underwhelming, but I just don’t think that’ll be the case. That said, what do you think? Shoot me a message and let me know!
