Ken Block Tears Up Detroit in Hoonicorn V2 Mustang

By -

NASCAR-powered, twin turbo, all-wheel-drive Mustang is joined by three rally cars and the new Hoonitruck.

Ken Block’s Gymkhana Ten debuted yesterday on The Hoonigans YouTube channel and the NASCAR-powered, twin turbocharged, all-wheel-drive 1965 Ford Mustang known as the Hoonicorn V2 is featured along with four other high performance machines from the Motor Company. These fives monster performance vehicles are shown smoking all four of their respective tires in five different locations, making Gymkhana Ten the most elaborate to date.

In addition to having the most vehicles and the most locations, this video is one of Block’s longest and best, showcasing his tire-slaying abilities in all sorts of different settings and situations. Best of all, we get to watch the original Hoonigan in three cool rally cars and two of the most unique antique Ford products we have ever seen. This includes the new Hoonitruck; a 1977 Ford F-150 powered by a modified Ford GT race car engine that has been designed with obvious inspiration from the Hoonicorn Mustang.

In Gymkhana Ten, Block drives five vehicles including a WRC Ford Fiesta, a 1991 Ford Escort RS Cosworth, a 2017 Ford Focus RS RX rally car, the Hoonitruck 1977 Ford F-150 and the Hoonicorn 1965 Ford Mustang.

The Fiesta features a turbocharged four-cylinder mill that delivers 380 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, the Escort has a turbocharged four-cylinder mill that delivers 645 horsepower and 527 lb-ft of torque and the Focus rally car packs a turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 650 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.

The Hoonitruck is powered by a twin turbocharged V6 delivering 914 horsepower and 702 lb-ft of torque and the Hoonicorn is powered by a 6.7-liter Ford NASCAR V8 fitted with a twin turbo setup that helps yield 1,400 horsepower and 1,250 lb-ft of torque.

Block’s newest action-packed video begins with him driving the WRC Fiesta in Sweden. This segment takes place on snow and ice covered surfaces, with Block sliding around ice fishing huts and a swimming hole in the ice. At one point, he is joined by 16-year-old rally racer Oliver Solberg in his Focus rally car, with this segment ending as Block blasts out onto a paved road. At that point, it transitions to the segment with the Hoonicorn Mustang.

The Mustang’s time in the spotlight begins around the 4:45 mark in the video, with Block working his magic on the streets of Detroit.

He begins by shredding tires around the old Detroit train station before blasting out onto I-75 North. During this segment, Block does donuts around an unknown individual riding a Segway, getting incredibly close to the tiny two-wheel vehicle while sliding in circles with the 1,400-horsepower pony car.

After a blast up I-75, Block does donuts around “The First” in downtown Detroit and he roars up past Cobo Hall, doing a crazy, tire-smoking J-turn of sorts as the Mustang segment ends in a cloud of smoke.

Next, Block races around the tight streets of Mexico in a Focus RS RX rally car, blasting through tunnels and smashing pinatas before we head off to Los Angeles for some footage of the Cosworth Escort. During the segment with the European Escort, Block tears the tires off of all four wheels and does donuts with sparks blowing out of all four wheel wells. Next to the Hoonicorn, the Cosworth Escort is the best-sounding vehicle in Gymkhana Ten.

Finally, the video ends with the Hoonitruck tearing up Shamrock, Texas. In what looks like the setting of the original Cars film, Block and his turbocharged F-150 drift through antique gas stations, around farm machinery, under the back end of an old-school flatbed truck and through an elaborate spiral of rusted out antique cars.

The video ends with Block driving the Hoonitruck under an off-road vehicle swinging in the air with a person wearing a gorilla suit at the wheel, before racing off into the sunset with a dirt bike alongside.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
