Mustang Nitrous Kit Backfires in Flames During Drag Race

Mustang on Fire

Let me start by issuing a clear NSFW note here, friends.

The clip below definitely isn’t suitable for playing at work or around any young kids. But it’s a vivid reminder for the rest of us of why adding a nitrous kit to your Mustang should probably be handled by folks with a lot more experience tinkering under the hood than just changing the oil.

In what begins as a typical drag race by most accounts, this 2009 Bullitt’s night run against a Chevy Blazer quickly turns into one hell of a scare. The nitrous system backfires, causing the Mustang’s engine to catch on fire, as highlighted in an Art of Gears report.

Luckily, it doesn’t seem as if anyone was hurt, and apparently the Mustang was back on the road a few days later. But it should serve as quite a lesson for Mustang owners that the cheapest route might not always be the best way to win a race.
