New Mustang GT California Special Boasts Enthusiast Features
The 2019 Ford Mustang GT California Special returns with rev-matching, B&O play audio system and new colors.
The upcoming 2019 Ford Mustang GT California Special, as featured above by the official Ford Motor Company YouTube channel, is going to pack some serious technology and features—rev-matching for the 5.0-liter six-speed manual, custom-tuned Bang & Olufsen (B&O) PLAY premium audio system, and even three new vintage-inspired colors.
“No doubt, 2019 is an exciting year for Mustang enthusiasts, especially fans of our California Special and BULLITT models,” said Corey Holter, Ford car group marketing manager. “This year further targets hardcore enthusiasts who want even more performance from BULLITT, while new technology—including rev-matching on manual transmission-equipped Mustang GT and active valve performance exhaust on the EcoBoost model—means even more thrills.”
Golden State Prowess
the Ford Mustang’s debut 1964 sparked a phenomenon; car clubs started popping up all across the nation. Also, there were many regional dealers who even implemented their own concepts and designs onto the pony car.
Paying homage to the 1967 Shelby GT Notchback prototype, the original California Special featured a blacked-out grille, fog lamps and a side stripe. It sported a Shelby-inspired spoiler, custom taillights, and twist-lock hood fasteners. Ford was enamored enough with the design to produce a limited number of these cars in 1968. Ford’s very own California Special joined the likes of Shelby, Boss and Mach 1 as a “special edition” Mustang.
California Special Face Lift
Today, the 2019 California Special Mustang GT is a head-turner. The trademark fading stripe that spans from the 5.0 side badge to the rear fender scoop will surely get you some double-takes. Don’t forget the iconic Ebony Black and Race Red script California Special badge that’s affixed below the trunk lid. Moreover, it has a blacked-out open grille, a Mustang Performance Pack 1 splitter and custom five-spoke painted machined wheels.
This California Special is a spectacular throwback to the 1960s-era Mustangs, especially with the large GT badge on the back as seen above. Still, it carves out a unique space for itself with all its beauty and brawn.
Interior
The cabin has stately-looking black Miko suede-trimmed seats with embossed GT/CS insignias, and has lush-looking red stitching contrast. It also comes with custom embroidered GT/CS floor mats. And of course, it just wouldn’t be complete without a signature California Special badge on the passenger-side dash panel. The 12-inch, all-digital LCD instrument panel, as well as the standard 4.2-inch cluster, makes this car look as futuristic as ever.
“Few things are more satisfying than dropping the top on a California Special and taking a drive down the majestic Pacific Coast Highway,” said Mark Conforzi, Ford designer. “This signature design takes its cues from the original California Special, while enhancing the personality of today’s Mustang.”
