REC Watch timepieces made from Mustangs

All timepieces from Danish company REC Watches proudly sport the VIN number model year of the cars they came from.

Once upon a time, any distinguished man worth his salt had a collection of watches. Or, at the very least, one for work and one for more formal occasions. But then the smart watch craze took over, mostly destroying what was a cherished tradition. But we’re here to tell you that there are still plenty of cool and distinguished timepieces out there worth checking out. Like the amazing P-51 Mustang collection from REC Watches.

It takes a special kind of watchmaker to craft a fine timepiece, for sure. But REC does things, well, a little differently. As in, they take their P-51 watches to the next level by crafting them from old Mustang parts. Yes, the beautiful timepiece you see before you features, among other parts, a dial cut directly from a vintage, salvaged Mustang. Which also obviously makes each individual watch they build wholly unique.

Each watch also proudly sports the VIN number of the car it came from, as well as the model year of the expired donor Mustangs. Other pony car influences include the battery power reserve inspired by the first-gen Mustang fuel gauge and the iconic three-hand and date functions. But if all of that isn’t good enough for your distinguished tastes, REC will also build you a one-off custom piece conceived of parts you provide them with.

It’s a fitting way to keep the souls of old Mustangs alive. Cars that would otherwise simply rot away in some junkyard somewhere. Especially since REC goes to the lengths of researching the history of each Mustang it uses. To the point where they even talk to the previous owners. Heck, they even gather videos and pictures of the car and roll them into a video for your education. And when was the last time you saw a smart watch that could do that?
