SEMA Mustang Inspired by GT40 MKII to Be Given Away
Galpin Auto Sports teams up with a pair of artists and a NASCAR driver to create one of the coolest SEMA Mustang builds of 2019.
SEMA 2019 is right around the corner , and we all know what that means. Along with a host of new and exciting parts and accessories, we’re bound to also see a host of crazy new builds. Some of which, well, are a little over-the-top. But we can essentially guarantee that this particular Mustang, a collaborative effort between NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Blaney, photographer Larry Chen, digital artist Khyzyl Saleem, and Galpin Auto Sports will hit the sweet spot in terms of uniqueness without going too far.
The inspiration for this incredible looking Mustang is certainly coming from the right place. The idea started with a series of renderings from Saleem, who wanted to pay tribute to the legendary Ford GT40 Mk IIs that dominated Le Mans in their time. The Mustang certainly looks like it’s ready for the track, what with those turbofan wheels and all. There are clearly some differences between Saleem’s concept and the actual build. But thankfully that functional upgrade appears to have made the cut. Up front, the turbofans cover a set of 20-inch Fifteen52 Podium Super Touring wheels.
SEMA is all about appearances, but this particular Mustang won’t run on some stock drivetrain. After all, that would be almost laughable given its racy appearance. Thus, the crew at Galpin have strapped a Roush supercharger to the 5.0-liter Coyote. They’re claiming the reworked engine now produces a healthy 700 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque. And because this is a “track” car, you shift your own gears via an MT82 six-speed manual transmission. Additional upgrades include a Magnaflow exhaust, Wilwood brakes, and ST Suspension XTA coilovers.
There was just one caveat for this amazing Mustang build – it had to be street legal. That’s because one lucky fan is going to take it home to their own garage. Or preferably, their local track. The Mustang is up for grabs in a sweepstakes hosted by MoneyLion and Ford, along with two additional custom builds. Unfortunately, the contest has already ended, so we’re out of luck. But at least we get to see this extremely unique build up close and personal in the Galpin booth at SEMA November 5-8!
