Sorry Porsche, the Ford Mustang Is King of the Sports Cars in Germany

It’s safe to officially call the new S550 Ford Mustang a global phenomenon. Happy, Ford? It’s GLOBAL, just like you said in every description of the car ever. The confirmation comes from a recent sales report (shown below) that details sales numbers of sports cars in Germany. As you know, the Mustang wasn’t available to Europe before this model. If you read closely, you’ll notice the top-selling sports car in the month of March was indeed the Mustang, albeit barely.

In March, Ford sold 780 Mustangs, beating out the Porsche 911’s 752 sales, and the Audi TT’s 708. However, the Mustang is still only in second place in the yearly numbers. Ford has sold 1,823 for the year, while Porsche has sold 1,811 911s, and the AudiĀ sold 2,299 TTs.

Now, despite what the click-bait title says (hey, at least I’m honest), there’s more to it than that. In this case, “more” refers to the pricing of everything. In reality, only the TT and the Mustang are truly comparable, and even then, they’re different types of sports cars (turbo-4 and rear-biased AWD versus true RWD and a V8).

In Germany, the 5.0 Mustang will set you back about $46,000, and the EcoBoost will cost you $43,000. The Audi TT Coupe starts at about $37,000, and the TTS is $57,000. The 911, however, is on an entirely different playing field starting at about $110,000. So, yeah, you can’t really compare that to a Mustang.

Is the Ford selling well? Absolutely, and that’s great! Is it taking over the Porsche 911? Nope.
