Low-Mileage ’69 GT500 Sells for $280,000

Remember that 1969 Shelby GT-500 with under 9,000 miles we covered few months ago?
Well, that classic American beauty recently pulled in $280,000 at an auction in Centre Hall, PA, according to a Central PA news report, which really shouldn’t come as surprise considering how rare of a find it is as ’69 Shelby with only 8,500 miles.

Mustangs Rule the Auction House at Barret-Jackson

Continuing to build on a long legacy with Barrett-Jackson, Ford Mustangs claimed four of the top ten sales at the car collector’s Las Vegas show. Earning the ninth spot for Barrett-Jackson’s top ten sales for the weekend was a 2008 Ford Mustang Saleen that sold for $180,000.

One of them, used for many of the driving scenes and promotional materials, sold for $1,000,000 at Mecum’s 26th Original Spring Classic 2013 auction in May. This example will be at Mecum’s Chicago auction set to take place October 10-12, 2013.

“Eleanor” Mustang Sells for $1 Million at Mecum Auction

Perhaps no other Mustang has been replicated as much as the “Eleanor” from the “Gone in 60 Seconds,” the 1967 Shelby GT500 becoming an instant classic thanks to the movie’s famous car chase scene. Officially licensed versions sell well into the six figures, so we were wondering what this real version – one of eleven built and just three surviving – would go for at Mecum’s Original Spring Classic auction in Indianapolis, IN. While we expected a hefty sum, weren’t prepared for the final hammer price – an even $1 million.
