2020 Shelby GT500

Though many Mustangs made some big numbers over the decades, these 10 laid down the biggest ones upon the road of life.

What Mustangs moves your soul the most? Is it a classic Mach 1? A big Boss 302? The promise of the future held within the SVO? Whatever your favorite pony, there are more than a few to have left their mark upon the highway. Some did so through styling, others through technological advancements.

And then, there are those Mustangs who’ve left a literal mark via tire-shredding horsepower. This is our top 10 list of the most powerful Mustangs of all time. Whether it’s a Shelby, a Saleen or a pony by any other parentage, if it’s street-legal and available to the public, it’s likely on this list.

10. 2015-16 Saleen S302 Yellow Label

Saleen S302 Yellow Label

Saleen is synonymous with Mustangs. For the first two years of the current S550-era Mustang, Saleen gave us the S302, which could be had at three different levels of performance. The Yellow Label version could be had with a 450-horse 302 V8. If a supercharger option was checked off, though, that power jumped to 715 horsepower, leaving the previous GT500 in the dust.

Cameron Aubernon's path to automotive journalism began in the early New '10s. Back then, a friend of hers thought she was an independent fashion blogger.

Aubernon wasn't, so she became one, covering fashion in her own way for the next few years.

From there, she's written for: Louisville.com/Louisville Magazine, Insider Louisville, The Voice-Tribune/The Voice, TOPS Louisville, Jeffersontown Magazine, Dispatches Europe, The Truth About Cars, Automotive News, Yahoo Autos, RideApart, Hagerty, and Street Trucks.

Aubernon also served as the editor-in-chief of a short-lived online society publication in Louisville, Kentucky, interned at the city's NPR affiliate, WFPL-FM, and was the de facto publicist-in-residence for a communal art space near the University of Louisville.

Aubernon is a member of the International Motor Press Association, and the Washington Automotive Press Association.
