Wild Horses: Mustangs at Formula Drift Long Beach

It may be a two-pony fight between Mustang drivers Justin Pawlak and Vaughn Gittin, Jr. in Formula Drift, but all Ford fans won thanks to their driving antics at a rain soaked Long Beach course. And we should also say thanks to the rest of the Mustangs at the first round of the 2016 Formula Drift Pro Championship at Long Beach. Have a look below, and you’ll see why.

Wilwood had their awesome looking classic 1966 Mustang on display. It’s powered by a 5.0 Coyote and still competes in the Ultimate Street Car Association — showing these young-blood Mustangs how to hang in the corners.

Trufiber showed off an S550 Mustang with their new body additions. It seems like more and more companies are going to bolt-on over-fenders rather than a wider fender, which allows for some very aggressive tire and wheel widths on the S550.

But more traditional body styling isn’t dead quite yet, as this S197 shows in the APR Booth.

Over at the Nitto booth, Vaughn Gittin, Jr.’s “Ultimate Fun Haver” was on display. If you’ve never seen this ultimate F150, it sports an EcoBoost engine that drifts just as well as it jumps. Vaughn hasn’t been afraid to show that off, either.

AEM also had a brand new S550 on display in their booth, along with several products, including a new induction system.

While Vaughn was knocked out of the Great Eight, he was still as energetic as ever. He also proved that the new S550 is capable of competing in the top level of Formula Drift, right out of the box.

His RTR version was certainly looking good this weekend, even in the wet weather.

Justin Pawlak was also on the brand new S550 chassis with Roush Performance, who he partnered with in 2014. While JTP was knocked out in the Top 32, he looked poised and awesome behind the wheel. He’s going to be a threat at Road Atlanta, for sure.
Both he and Gittin showed that these brand new, IRS Mustangs are going to be a chassis to contend with in the 2016 Formula Drift Season.
