Default 2014 V6 vs 2015+Ecoboost??

I'm in the market for a 11-14 V-6 premium convertible, manual. Mostly because I really love the older body style but I want the newer V6, not the old V6 on the 05-10. However, finding manuals are next to impossible...if I expand the search to to premium mustangs newer then 2014, the ecoboosts are far more numerous in manual because they are more recent.

So basically, can anyone tell me the performance differences between the 15+ ecoboost convertibles and the 11-14 V6s.

I know the newer mustangs are heavier because of the independent rear suspension, but maybe the benefits of that outweigh the detriments to getting a 14 with the old style rear suspension.

Anyway, just wanted some opinions. Thanks!

The newer ecoboosts will come with all of the premium features, and much better ones then the last gen (I havent seen any on the market that dont). V6s in general will usually have minimal features, and as you've seen automatics. Not trying to sound like an ***, but in general a v6 convertible is a chicks (or rental) car which is why manuals are very rare.

I havent seen convertible times, but for coupes (stock) the 11-14 v6 is actually 0.5 sec faster quarter mile (magazine tests) then the 15+ ecoboost. Weight plus additional drivetrain loss from the IRS really make a difference.

If I was getting a third car, I'd be getting a V8 in a heartbeat. But this will be my daily driver and I live north of chicago so I'm looking at the lower horsepower for a bit more control.

Mustangs don't come with 'eco modes' that dampen the power like Dodges do.

Convertibles seem to add .3 to the 0 to 60 on both pre 15 and post 15 stangs.

Most people "dampen" the power with their right foot.

I would go with v-6 in a 2014.

It's faster and will be less troublesome.

I've owned one for over 4 years. It has all the bells and whistles.

Get the 2015 or newer if you can swing it. Much better car overall with irs. The Ecoboost is more fun stoplight to stoplight than a v6, because torque.

The sixxers sound better but the turbo sounds really cool too, and you can make more power and torque with a few bolt ones and a tune on the ecoboost than the V6.

I see this is an old thread but felt the need to chime in.

I own both (sort of) I own a 2014 V6 Premium Coupe and a 2017 EcoBoost Premium Vert

1. Anyone that tells you one is faster than the other (magazine or not) is just plain silly. The cars are almost identical in acceleration (real world). The power delivery is quite different but the end result is the same. EcoBoost is cheaper and easier to make faster but that is moot as any car can be made faster and there is always someone faster that that.
2. 2017 has a few more features than my 2014, like Cooled seats (both have heated seats), cross-path, blind spot detection, driver memory, I think that is the major differences.
3. The seats in the 2017 are by far better better
4. The interior in the 2017 is generally better
5. 2014 sounds better (stock) and recently I added the Pypes Pipe Bombs and it sounds WAY better now.
6. 2017 sticker is ~$10K higher but I think about $4K of that is the vert.
7. Both have the nicer shaker radios and both are good. I would not say one is "better" I think the 2014 might be a tad louder but the 2017 is a tad clearer.
8. the 2017 handles a lot better especially over less that perfect surfaces.
9. 2013-2014 MY Mustangs are the best looking mustangs made to date, IMHO

OP BUMP!

Thanks for the responses guys!!

I ended up going with a 2014 stock manual V6 convertible. Dark silver with black racing stripes.

Next to impossible to find a premium with stick shift, but I did find an extremely affordable near bone stock Mustang. It came with power seats and fog lights thankfully but thats about it.

I put in JL speakers and an amplifier, and am planning on replacing the stock headunit with something with android auto soon. I put in an Airaid CAI, which made it sound 100x better, before it sounded like an old man trying to walk up stair. Hoping to put some Bassani axlebacks on it

I ended up going with a 14' because I love the look of them significantly more and it's the last of the traditional muscle car mustang...lacking the IRS. I think the 14 is an end of an era and worth having a piece of, I also think the 05-14 body style was an incredible retro-modern look that only the Challenger has been able to pull off as well.
