What are the pros and cons with a overlay grill vs. a direct replacement?

I'm hoping to see some responses to this one: there must be some data or experience that lends some kind of sense to my question. "Doesn't putting two grills in front of the radiator cut the amount of cooling air flowing through the radiator?"

I know that air tends to "pile up" in front of a grill if there is something damming its flow over the top and past the sides. On the S197s there certainly is something all around the grill, namely the hood, headlight pods, and front bumper cover. Does the damming increase air pressure to the radiator, increasing flow, or has it no real effect?

I'd look into moving the grill front surface out to the edge of the hood, so air not passing through the grill will be free to pass over the top.

All that aside, I see an overlay billet grill on eBay for 19.95. Shipping takes it up to about 40.00. Stack enough of those together, and your grill will stick right out in front.

Two front-end accessories I'd like to see at reasonable prices are:

A stick-on body-color panel that would fill in the flat license plate area in the front bumper cover, complete with a continuation of the raised moulding that runs across the front and catches light in every front photo (off-road use only, of course).

A panel that fits behind the lower grill, with fixtures that allow simple ducting of air to brakes and/or normal intake passages.

Ok.. .heres a little tidbit... If you look at the stock grill you'll notice that the sides are SOLID. I recently put a CDC billet grille in the Mistress... This grill is open all the way across and definitely impoved the airflow! I monintor my coolant temp (with my Dashhawk) and the temp has dropped about 6 to 8 degrees when i'm driving! Going down the highway my temps would be in the 205 range... now they stay around 197 to 199... perhaps not a big diffeence but it tells me i'm getting more air! LOL!

BTW.. I love the new grille...

Hey scrming when I went to CDC's website the only grilles I see that they sell for the 4.0 is the overlay style. Where did you get yours, it looks sick, also was it a direct drop in replacement or did it require some modifications like drilling/cutting.

^^^if i remember correctly he had the GT one modified to fit the 6. its a direct replacement (for the GTs), its doesnt mount like the stock grill but uses the same mounting points.

i got the black CDC grill sitting in my room right now, waiting on the GT front to come in. it was expensive ($310 after shipping) but i absolutely love the fog-less look and its a real quality piece.

Damn.......im not that crafty. lol Thanks for the quick response though.

Yea I am just looking for a easy direct billet replacement for the V6 grille.

Does anyone have any experience with this grille from Ninosport... http://www.ninosport.com/Chrome-Gril...-07-Mustang-V6
It looks like the Cervinis one (guess the background picture makes me think that?)
But yea they don't give an actual brand name or anything but it says it a direct replacement for the 6 and at least from what I can tell from the picture it looks good, and at a fairly good price too.

As ismellhonda pointed out... yes, I have a GT version modified to fit my V6 front... however CDC is going to bring a V6 verson out... Not sure of the ETA on it.... And like the GT version it will be a direct replacement!
