Default hood replacement

One of the earlier mods on my list is going to be a hood replacement. I'm wondering if going for weight reduction is something that should be a factor in choosing a hood? I want to get something that looks cool and a little different instead of a generic GT hood scoop, like so many other people have.

Also whats up with all the sponsors, I could of sworn there were a few with tons of body kits like a year ago, can anyone point me to a place that has a ton of hoods / spoilers / whatever if I'm just being stupid and missing them?

Weight should not b ethat big of an issue. The weight difference is not worth getting a different hood, or not gettign the aftermarket hood you want. Cervinis (Cervinis.com) has quite a few hoods and spoliers besides their signature kits and they are fair prices.

Tru Fiber hoods have a huge selection and great quality. Fast Toys a sponsor here sells them.

Unless you're getting seriously into racing the weight shouldn't matter.

I wouldn't worry about the weight. The stock hood is lighter than most aftermarket hood's. I think the stock hood weighs around 25lbs.

The factory hood is aluminum so it is light .I went to a carbon fiber hood and the comparison
wasn't that surprising. So go with the style you like.

Anyone know about what it'll cost to get a hood primed and painted? I'll probably get my stripes painted at the same time.. might save a few $.

FWIW, most aftermarket hoods out there are fiberglass...and will weigh 20-35 lbs more than the stock aluminum hood. There are a couple of aftermarket aluminum hoods out there, as well as a few carbon fiber ones, but you won't achieve much weight reduction by going with a different hood. And if you go with a fiberglass one, you'll be adding weight.

Most aftermarket companies are concentrating on making their fiberglass hoods strong and not having to use hood pins. Any lightweight hood is likely going to require hood pins or it will flap in the breeze at high speeds. All the Tru Fiber hoods we sell are quality fiberglass hoods that install with OEM hardware and feature a steel latch plate. Several forum members have "tested" them up to 140 MPH with no problems. Check out our catalog for pictures. We have a sale running right now too

Thanks. I'll probably look at the SVT-Style extraction hood you guys have.. it'll be a few months though cause theres other mods on my list prior and I cant really afford to have the hood painted right now, lol.
