Spinners
I am surprised more Mustang owners don't have Tri-bar spinners. But then, they are plastic and easy to pop off and steal.
Once you buy them, at $100 including freight, you don't want them stolen. An unknown author secured his spinners by removing the wheel and inserting from the backside a 2.5 inch round-brass sliding glass door handle. Apparently, this also keeps the prongs from expanding. He also details his interesting modifications to his current model GT.

I don't think in this day of "super-safety" we'd be allowed 8 ounce steel spinners that at 80MPH could cut through a house.
My old 65 Corvair had steel spinners, you actually had to have the wheels balanced with the wire wheel covers attached they were so heavy (somethng like 10-15 pounds).
Plastic is light, "safe", and easy to replace.
They still look good though.

I read where a guys spinner came off. Also someone said that the Ford Spinners are made of plastic chrome. Is that true?
Years ago on my first car I had chrome spoke rims that came with a chrome (solid, not plastic) spinner. In the center it had an emblem that you could take off and lock the rims with a key. There was never any worry about the spinner flying off. I am very surprised that the spinners Ford now offers do not have something to lock them on.
I have yet to remove the Tri-Bar Pony emblem from my rims (chicken), is there a way to screw a spinner in there and lock it?

i was calling em "knock-offs" when i first bought my stang until i realized they were actually called "spinners". "knock-off" is what we call em on lowrider dayton spoke wheels. still sound better than "spinners". the word "spinner" should only be used for those lame, real-spinning rims that so many hip-hoppers have[:'(]. i really dig the tri-bar spinners by the way. gonna get a set and use the pvc pipe method for security. that idea is pretty ingenius

That cr@p you see on ghetto-mobiles is just garbage. It isn't even interesting, just plain dumb. Come up with a new name for 'em.
I'm sick of people taking the old school names and reapplying them to something else. (not YOU in particular, just seeing a lot of it, spinners (knock offswere nuts that looked like spinners you put on/took off with a lead mallet)now referring toghetto rims, air dams => chin spoilers, hood pins being called "rice", white lettered tires being called "rice", etc etc.)
I never minded "low-riders" using air shocks, and white-walls with mag rims, because they believed the car was an art form. +10 to them.
There is a FUNDIMENTAL difference between low-riders, old school muscle, new school muscle, "tuners" and rice.
The first4 groups are into the asthetics of the automobile... beauty and performance combined.
Never heard anyone say a "ricer" was beautiful, nor was a "ricer" particularly powerful.
It is an extreme on either, or both, ends of the spectrum.
I'll get off my soapbox, sorry for the rant...

Go online to brsparts.com. They have solid metal spinners that lock on to the wheel from the back. They use stock Ford centers which come off very easily from the back of the wheels with a push from a hammer handle. They cost $129.95 a set. I have them on my 05 with 17 inch Ford black bullits and they look great!

This post was like a ticking time bomb ready to go off. What caused all this maddness?
Kind of surprising, I didn't know they were so easy to remove. I've had the car 3 years and have never had to take a tire off so hadn't noticed. Well as long as they make it till the tires wear out, then I'll get my new rims.

I bought my2007 with 4000 miles on itthree weeks ago at the local dealership complete with 4 "spinners". I noticed yesterday I was missing the passenger side rear one. I have no idea what happened to it -I live in a bad neighborhood and I work withseveral practical jokers.I did some online research and found out it was a common problem (and I found this forum in the process). Anyway I went by the dealership after work and talked to the guys at the parts counter. They did not haveone with the Ford logo on it, but the guy ended up GIVING me one with the pony logo on it. I was pleased.
Who cares if it doesn't match the other 3.
