Rims help!
some of you may have seen the thread about my wreck a couple of weeks ago. well turns out the body shop sent my rim off to get rebuilt since they're discontinued. when the rebuild shop got it and inspected it, they found that the rim was actually warped so the can't rebuild it. also since the rims are discontinued, the insurance agency cant buy me a new one so they said all they're going to do is give me what one of my rms would have cost new. i don't know how much that is, but i'd be surprised if it was near $500, probably somewhere around $300. the problem is now i have 3 perfect, outstanding, gorgeous rims that i can't find a match for so i'm probably going to get stuck buying a completely new set of rims...
i can't spend too much, but i don't really want some crappy looking rims either. i'm thinking that some black ones would look good with my stripes and paint color. also think i might wanna go 18x9 and 18x10. i was looking at the GT4 Style rims on American Muscle that look like the FR500's, but i don't see them in 18x10. what websites have a really good selection of rims for our stangs? also any suggestions on what look to go with? anybody got any used ones they're selling? i went through the first 10 pages of the classifieds and nothing really jumped out at me. if there's anyway i could swing it, i'd get the 20" Saleens painted black like in Transformers, but i think that a set of those goes for just shy of $3K...

I think 18" black bullitts like these would look killer. http://www.wheelhq.com/mustang-black-bullitt-18x9.html

RE: Rims help!
new questions.
18's or 20's?
can you even get 20x10's? i'm having trouble finding them.
will a 305 tire fit on our stangs if i go with a 10 wide rim or is it too wide?
are 18x9 and 18x10 staggered a good setup?
what is an "offset"? do you have to buy a spacer or something for these offsets?
as you can tell, i don't know much about rims... i talked to a tire tech earlier today and he told me if i went 18x9/18x10 i should get 275/40R18's for the front and 305/45R18's on the back...

RE: Rims help!
18's or 20's is all a personal preference, I personally like 18's on our cars. I like the look of alittle more rubber under our wheel wells, that, along with the better ride and less expensive rubber, got me to 18's. Also, if you go 20's, you're almost required to lower your car, due to the funny looking fender gap you'll have.
A 305 tire will fit on a 10" rim. A 9" rim will hold a 245-275mm tire and a 10" rim will likely hold a 255-305 tire. Remember if you stagger your tires fron to back you will lose your ability to rotate them, thus increasing tire wear and and balance of handling over time, and you'll have to replace tires sooner.
Offset is the term used to describe the location of the hub contact point of the wheel to the centerline of the wheel. For example a +35mm offset means the part of the wheel that makes contact with the lugs is 35mm outward of the centerline of the wheel when viewed from the back. You can find good drawings to help you understand at www.tirerack.com Each time you increase your wheel width from stock, you may need to decrease your offset by a certain amount to avoid the wheel/tire from rubbing against the shock, strut, ot control arms behind them.

RE: Rims help!
awesome, thanks! however, i was reading a post about 20's and i forge who it was, but they said that with a 305 tire on our cars you need new shocks and springs so that the tire doesn't rub the hweel well? is that just for 20's or will 18's have clearance issues with a 305?

RE: Rims help!
Well, 305 is a liitle wide. I don;t know of anyone running those, but it has to do with total tire height, not rim size. For example, to keep correct tire height and thus not needing to recal your speedomoeter.... your stock wheels are 235/55-17: = 305/25-20, which is unavailableso a 305/30-20 will be slightly taller and wider than stock, if you can even find that size. Personally I wouldn't go over 285 in the rear, so choices would be 275/40-18, 285/40 -18 275/30-20, or 285/30 -20. Go to tirerack and search for those sizes. Your speedo will be accurate and no need to change any suspension components.
