Default Shaker 1000 upgrade ?s

Ok, so I picked up the 4-pack of amps and the Shaker 1000 subs for a VERY good price (I LOVE eBay!), only to find out you need a special harness to plug it into. I also read about the Shaker 1000 head unit so you can turn the subs on/off at will. Does anyone know if the Shaker 1000 head unit is needed for it to work, or can I just get the harness, plug it in, and enjoy it without being able to turn it off? The on/off button has to work like the remote wire works on aftermarket systems, so I'm thinking if I can find the right pin, I can bridge it with a wire that will give it power when the ignition is on (just like a remote wire). Of course, this is all theory. Any ideas?

P.S. I know aftermarket systems sound better and all that. I like the factory look and I need my trunk space so I don't want to drop in a large subwoofer box. The other option is a bass tube if this is too difficult, and I will just re-sell what I bought.
