Default Hoods

Are our stock hoods aluminum or fiberglass? I was under the impression they were glass, but someone today told me that it was aluminum.

Stock hood is aluminum at 19 lbs. My CF hood is 7 lbs. A bit of weight savings.

The stock aluminum hood weights 27.71 pounds according to a Ford spec sheet I have.

Yes Sir.
It was first priced at $690 then last year, bumped to $900 and some change.
It then went to $1270 during last summer. As we speak it picked up points, lol. It's now $1294.
I hate to see what's gonna happen in January...
Right now, only the KR hood is more expensive (if you can get one).
The stock GT500 can be had for $600 or about and the SS is around $1100.
Stupid Ford really, how many stock base hoods Ford is gonna sell? None.

Hmm....now I wonder if those aluminum stock hoods like the GT500 will have the TSB problem that seems to plague every S197 made?
I took mine in a week ago and sure enough, mine is starting to corrode. You can't really see it, but it's there and the Ford guy saw it too.
I'm wondering if it would be cheaper for Ford just to put on a new hood (hopefully with no defect) than trying to spend $ to repair it?
Knowing Ford though, they'll go the long and stupid route.
It would be awesome if they would just hand me over a check and I go and buy an afermarket hood, but I know that ain't gonna happen.

wow, that's what I call a price increase....and at that kind of price, I'd definitely go aftermarket before putting that stock hood back on my car! upgrade, better look and save a few bucks....doesn't get much better than that!
