Question Trunk Badge Removal With Vinyl Stripes?

Hey all.
I was wanting to remove my trunk GT badge to paint it black but
I have matte black stripes.

I am worried that using a fishing string could scratch up my
stripes. Have any of you done this with stripes and how
would you recommend going about doing it so that I do
not damage the stripes?

Thanks!

I don't see how fishing line will damage your stripes buddy.

Try waxed dental floss.

I second that. Mint flavored if you got it! j/k Waxed dental floss is a good idea.

Well I guess it could... But then again it would be behind the faux gas cap if it did scratch...

^^^^ +1 ^^^^ and covered in 3M tape remains....

How did your matte stripes get behind the faux gas cap?
And if you remove the cap, will the 3m tape be all stucky
to the stripes anyhow?
Use the fishing line, or waxed dental floss (thats thinner
than the gap between the cap and the stripes) and pull
it away from the body at a 45 degree angle, well away
from the stripes (cus the line is thinner than the gap).
Maybe state what you want to do again cus its all lost in translation...

Instead of removing the rear badge, why don't you just mask around it and paint it on the car? Saves a lot of hassle.

Just did mine and I have (had) vinyl stripes too.

1) Cover the area around the cap with blue painter's tape to protect the stripes.
2) Use fishing line or dental floss to get in an inch all the way around
3) Then just get your finger under one edge and pry it off. Easy

*However, you will now have a big gooey spot where your stripes aren't, so You will have to replace the cap with something or redo your stripes anyway.
