Honestly I don't know how much I spent. Probably under $5 actually.

I inherited my girlfriend's GPS when she got a new one. We have a 15 hour road trip coming up next weekend, so I wanted to fab something up so I wouldn't have to have it mounted on the windshield. I have no idea what the rubber thing is that I used, it was something I found in the plumbing department at the hardware store. I just shaved the ribs off with an X-acto knife. The air vent easily pops in and out if you reach inside with your thumbs and pull from both sides. It looks really rough when it's in pieces, but when in use, I think it looks pretty finished.

 

That's pretty ingenious.

I had a 12+ hour road trip 2 weekends ago with the Stang and had no problem with the GPS and RD mounted just above the dash. From the way I sit and the height of both units, neither one obstructed the view of the road at all. But I DO like your idea. Nice job.

I got one of the Best Buy universal phone mounts (thats normally $20+) for like $5 (if you have a friend who works there, the cost they pay is about $5).

My AT&T Fuze has a built in GPS chip, use a custom OS image and install the Garmin Mobile XT software (windows mobile), works very well, just like a normal Garmin unit. Cigarette lighter to USB adapter, 3 foot USB to mini usb, route around the steering column to hide it, and mount the phone to the windshield by the pillar. Works great, and the way I have it mounted, it can record video and pictures clearly through the glass.

 

i like it. i usually just suck it on my window up high next to the mirror. pretty cool tho

 

You can make a Acrylic/Plexiglass Mount that fits between the Center Vents.

That's awesome! I considered that approach too, but I didn't think it'd work. Is cutting the plexi difficult? What did you use to cut it?
