Black Metallic
Went to my local dealership this weekend and I am getting closer to buying my first mustang
! I am torn on the color, as the car looks great in any color. I looked at a black one and really liked the look, but I have heard people talking about scratching of the clearcoat when washing. I was wondering how bad is it and is it enough to make me think about another color. Thanks in advance!

get the black ONLY if you're willing to spend the time caring for it. I spend about an hour a week washing. I've had mine for 6 months and have very few scratches in the clear coat. I wash once a week. Forget everything you every learned about washing a car and NEVER EVER go to the corner car wash. I'd be happy to share my wash routine if you'd like. email me direct.

I wash it usually twice a week, depending on what kind of time i have.
I washed mine 3 times in the first two weeks. The fourth week I had to make a conscious effort to not wash it. The fifth week it rained so I didn't bother. Sixth week is coming and so is a wash. lol
I haven't noticed any scratching thus far. I was using a chamois to dry, but switched to a California Water Blade 'cos its faster, but it squeals like crazy. The blade didn't scratch it either. My towels don't absorb water for some reason or else I'd just use those.

I just sold my black Stang and I said I would never own another black car. It was just too depressing to find some new little scratch or nick every time I washed the car. Then on top of that I would wash the car in the summer time and a few hours later it would be green from all the pollen resting on it. I now have silver and love it. But all complaining aside if you have the time and patients there is no other color like black when it is clean, but it can be a pain keeping it that way. Good luck and let us know what color you get.
Yeah, I own an 06 GT black and the upkeep is only for the highest enthusiast that loves the color that much. After a month of learning with my new found black colored car I found that I must garage my car if I want to keep it clean. The pollon build up on the car is rediculous but for me it is worth it because the shine with the car is clean is fabulous. As with the chips in the car I only have one so far and it was there when I recieved the car in the door handle a little slice in the paint. I am worried now to see what will happen in the future after seeing all these complaints about scratches and chips after washing. I keep my car waxed and prepped at least once a week so the wax might be protecting me from any chips that might have occured.
Depending where you live may help you if you want the color black. I live in a seaport town and the trucks here are numerous. You will get paint chips and the sand will wear on your vehicle too. Pollen. bird *hit, you name it. Black is a beautiful color but it does show flaws and you will be washing it and waxing it more than any other color. Now I enjoy that type of thing but I will tell you from my experience that I will never buy a black car. My wife bought this for me as a surprize birthday present and I'm planning on my next mustang to be silver it is the best forgiven color out there.
When I first went looking at the dealer, I was either going with blue or the mineral color...then I saw the black one, and as dirty as it was (it just rained) I still LOVED the way it looked with the interior package upgrade. I kind of got screwed from the start at the dealer with the clearcoat - they have an automatic wash that left the swirlies on it. (I didn't realize it until later) The swirlies were kind of sad at first, but then I realized that since it's my daily driver things are going to happen to it. The most important thing is that I don't really notice them unless I'm right next to the car looking at where the light shines off of it anyway. It's not like they're chips of of the paint, so they're not that easily noticed.
I agree that BLACK is AWESOME looking when it is all glossy and cleaned up.
BUT - - I had a black Olds Trofe'o and it drove me absolutely NUTS trying to keep it clean and nick free. When I finally switched cars I vowed never to go with black again no matter how much I like it.
Now... if you going to make a Trailer Queen car... Black is the way to go!.. but for a daily driver... it is a LOT of work!
