Default CAI sound?

I'm looking at the C&L CAI w/SCT X-CAL2 combo on Brenspeed.com. I've heard that you can hear the CAI - is it noticeable? Is it simply the increased airflow at the point of intake that makes the noise, or will my (stock) exhaust sound different (or both)? What does it sound like?

It will make your car sound deeper.

Induction noise!

The factory intake tube has a resonator on it to dampen sound, plus filter box restricts sound a lot. The CAI provides an almost entirely uninterupted sound path from the valves to the outside air. What you get is more of a growl. i almost didn't want a new exhaust after putting my CAI in.

The best way I can describe it is to make a continuous "pop pop pop pop" sound with your mouth. Make sure no one's around first. If you do that while exhaling, that's exhaust noise, if you do it while inhaling, that's induction noise. It's almost the same except there's a "crack" when exhaling, which is similar to the combustion in the motor.

The sound the CAI makes is compared to:

A deep suction sound, kinda like back in the 60's when you may not have run an air cleaner on your carb. and then you floored it.......thats the sound. You can hear the air being sucked into the engine.

Thats the first thing I noticed, reminder me of my mom's 59 chevy biscayne 6cyl with no air cleaner on it. Of coarse, I put the air cleaner back on before bringing the car home at night.

Yeah, I had my drivers lic. back in 63'.

That's exactly where I am right now, don't know if I want a new exhaust! I don't think I've heard any sounds from the CAI itself though, maybe if I had the car turned on and opened the hood I might be able to hear that bad boy sucking in air.

i have that same combo on mine, and what everyone said here is true - it sounds a lot meaner than factory. i too am still on the fence about exhaust now....when you're flooring it, it almost sounds like you have exhaust on there already. still think i'm going to throw some borlas on there though....can't wait to hear how THAT sounds.

also the gas pedal is a little more touchy...don't need to give it as much gas to go, can DEFINITELY feel the increased power.

I'll probably be picking up my CAI with Diablo tuner within the next two months. The sound and power should be noticable on the car, compared to stock.

Sounds like the good ole days when you floored it and the 4 barrel opened up. With the aftermarket exhaust, you'll be looking for opprotunities to punch it just to hear the sweet sound this car is capable of. 2 of the best mods if you want that muscle car sound.

OHHHHHH BOYYY.... Am I in for a treat!!

1. I got Borla cat backs (broken in and DAYUM do they sound mean!!)

2. Installing CAI and TUNE (from fred @ evo)

Will report back on all this when it happens (doing it on the 25th, driving to Fred while he puts it on as well as other mods)

I think people will hear me coming from blocks away.... right now its really mean but cant imagine how it will be with the CAI.

Dood... you had me making sounds with my mouth for an entire 5 minutes just so I can get the sound you were talking about. I think I failed miserably though.... haha.. I had fun doing it though... hehe..
