Which Gears? 4.10 vs 4.30
My next mod is probably going to be gears, but I'm having trouble deciding between the 4.10s and 4.30s. Justin at JPC had recommended the 4.30s, but it seems like most of the forum posters have 4.10s listed in their signatures and others have told me that 4.10s are the best street gear. Does anyone know what the differences would be in top speed, 0-60 times, and cruising rpm's @ 60? My stang is mainly street driven, but may eventually make it to the track... mostly street though. Any recommendations?

RE: Which Gears? 4.10 vs 4.30
EDIT: THIS INPUT IS FOR A MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY
for an auto, i have only limited track experience with shorter gears. it seems that if you want it on your daily driver, 3.73 is the way to go, but if you weekend drive primarily, or go to the track alot, go with 4.10s.
i have had BOTH 4.10 and 4.30, and for my puposes love the 4.30 by far the most. With tuning i can still hit 60 in 2nd gear at about 6300rpm, meaning my 0-60 times are about 4.4 right now, when i get traction. I GAINED mpg with 4.10 swap and a tune, but dropped about 1.5mpg after switchin to 4.30, so if you do a LOT of driving in the car, the 4.10 might be the better option. i still get 14 city and 20 highway, and 23 if i set CC at 65 on the highway for long trips, tho i never do lol.
cruising at 80 i am at about 3000rpm.
1st goes to about 32
2nd to 62
3rd to 95
4th to 122
5th to somewhere in the low 170s if i could get there
4.10s were about 5% higher than that...tho i didn take rpms quite as high with them.
moral: racing and extra bit of fun = 4.30
better mpg and still lots of fun = 4.10

I'll probably go with 4.30 now that I hear that although I was planning on going with 4.10s when I first decided I was going to do gears in the near future. Great overview Sleeper05 and comparison between the 4.10 and 4.30s.

Well what about if you have a tci converter i was told by many on the forum that the best gears to go with a tci converter is 3.73 or else i would hve lost torque and 0-60 timing is that true?

most people actually have 3.73s because people who have no clue what they are talking about come on here and give advice, however, with 4.30s there is a smaller pinion gear so it is easier to break then with 4.10s. you should atleast go with 4.10s, no matter what tranny you have, if your a high milage a year i would go with 4.10s

RE: Which Gears? 4.10 vs 4.30
I was leaning toward the 4.10's for that reason. But, was thinking since my car is mainly only used on the weekend for fun, not back and forth to work, and will be left in the garage during the week, 4.30's might be a good idea after all. I'm still thinking 4.10's would be best though, unless you guys convince me otherwise.

for an manual u can go to 4:30
for an auto u can go to 4:10
but i rather go with 4:10 because my car is dayly driver and if i went out to the highway with a 4:30 the rpm will be really up and i think you be spending alot on fuel.
