Food for Financial Thought...
Used some #'s from a couple of mustang books I have, but Original MSRP's in todays dollars using an online inflation calculator. Keeps things in perspective a bit.
Just a random selection of mustangs through the years...
1965 -average mustang sold - $18,100
1965 - Shelby ?options - $26,215
1966 - Shelby w/Supercharger - $26,400
1968 - Shelby GT500KR - $25,450
1969 - Basic Stang w/a few options - $15,325
1969 - Ramair 428CJ - $16,815
1969 - Mach1 428 CJ-R - $18,515
1969 - Shelby GT350 - $24,535
1969 - Shelby GT500 - $26,005
1969 - Shelby GT500 Convertable - $34,855
1973 - Fully Loaded Mustang GT - $20,525
1974 - Mach 1 - $16,220
1978 - King Cobra - $22,355
1979 - Base Model - $13,695
1984 - GT Turbo Convertable - $25675
1984&1/2 - SVO (w/ a whopping 175 HP!!!!) - $28,850
1989 - Saleen SSC $59,225
1990 - LX 5.0 - $27740

I think we should all feel lucky we're not paying $29,000 for a car with 175 lousy hp!

CrimeScene, are you looking at the same numbers I am? All the GT and GT-equivalent models are in the low $20s...the GT500 and 500KR are significantly less than our GTs. Today the GT500 is predicted to MSRP for $40K. How is that the not "much different" than what they are today?
What I found interesting was the slight dip in the mid 70s to early 80s. It was easier to get a new Mustang then than today--albeit, the performance wasn't what it is today. Of course, in the 60s, you could get a Mach I with big block power/CJ heads and it only ran you $18K in today's dollars! Wow.
Cool post Tik Tok.
