Puff of smoke
I am not sure if this is the same ticking sound you guys are getting but the HVAC system regulates the tempature by lifting the pulley on and off of the belt. I find this really obnoxious personally but that may be what some of you are noticing. Pop your hood and turn on your ac and you will see this pully go on and off.
I don't know if thats what yuo are hearing but it may be so I thought Id thrown in my 2 cents.

If you have run the car hard before you shut it down on the previous ride, sometimes the upper cylinder area gets loaded with alittle extra gas and does a good job at washing the oil from the area. When you start it back-up, this mix gets burned very quickly and hence you see a puff of stinky blue/white smoke. This also occurs if you say start the car, move it and shut it down, without letting it run alittle while. On restart, you'll also get some smoke.
Bottom line - don't worry about it.

Additive is a gas additive by Chevron. My service tech guy freind said it's good to use for cleaning out the fuel system.
Thanks for all the feed back, again it makes me feel better knowing that it's fairly normal.

REGARDING THE PUFF OF SMOKE EMITTED DURING COLD STARTS, this is Fuel injector related. Some early 05's have a bad fuel injector designe, there is currently a Survice bulletin on this, so take it to your dealer and have them fix it, no charge of course
The ticking noise, may still be fuel injector related but, im not certian for sure, may also be the valve retard mechanism on the variable cam timing system...maybe. Have the dealer adress that issue also

I just bought a new GT and have read Mustang forums for a few months while waiting fo the car to be built. What I found was this issue on many forums. Someone posted that the intake manifold has two hoses coming in from each valve cover. The pcv is on the left one. That vapor is drawn in the intake manifold while the engine is running and that these motors actually have a lot of oil going with the vapor. In fact Steeda makes a collector to install inline. The vapor goes in the intake and the oil is trapped in the collector. Well I bought 2 at Lowe's and put one on each side. On the left one, it fills up and I have to drain several ounces out about every 2 weeks. This also prevents oil from gumming up the TB. When you let your car sit over night, they say oil sits in the manifold and then burns out when you start. We have had no blue smoke on start up and I have been looking for it. You won't believe how much oil is being sucked into your manifold. Do a search here and someone has posted pictures of the collectors. They go on air compressors.
