x pipe problems
so i went ahead and installed my x pipe by my self i have a buddy with a lift so it was pretty easy. But for some reason its making this sound like some thing is loose or something its driving me nuts!! ive checked it a couple times and everything seems to be tight, also u can only hear it from inside . any suggestions on what it might be ? thanx
1. Describe the noise.
2. Is the noise at start-up, or after it's run for awhile.
3. Have you tightened everything with the exhaust at operating temperature ?
4. Are you sure you didn't miss anything in the instructions ?

I too now get this same sound after eliminating my mufflers. I really believe that by reducing back-preasure in these cars that the exhaust pulses conflict at a different point than the Ford engineers designed. So that means the factory cast iron exhaust is no longer flow spec'd to match exhaust pulses. You correct this by adding long tube tuned headers. They will space the cylinder pulses properly at the collector. I did not see this coming either, but from many years of racing I know it happens. However I have never experienced such a dramatic change as with this car. I think the pulses are meeting head on at the factory collector at certain RPM, forcing one too speed up in order to get through. Makes for inconsistent airflow and a "buzz" beyond the collector. Just my thought. But I do know that if you tune a pipe length for a specific RPM that is your most efficient RPM. Relate it to when you cruise the interstate and your open exhaust gets quiet. At that point your pulse width matches your pipe length. And everyone will not experience the "buzz" it will depend on tune, intake, and mufflers.
I had the pypes o/r x-pipe installed with the slp l/m. I can't stand the raspy buzzing sound. It sounds like a ricer with the big coffee can muffler[sm=smiley21.gif]I am gonna install the SLP catted x-pipe this week to see if that buzzing noise goes away.
LOL I had the same problem and it turned out to be the bolt from the oxygen sensor was about half a milimeter from the frame - so at just the right vibration it would knock against it and you could hear it inside the car on the passenger side. Giving it a few more mm of clearance fixed the problem. Just a crazy shot in the dark, but you might take a look.
