Fuel Additive?

RE: Fuel Additive?
I've been using Amsoil PI for years at the "maintenance dose." I know how the gas distributors add the "additives" and it is spotty at best, especially with the 1) supply line problems after the hurricanes, and 2) now the conversion from MTBE to ethanol as the "oxygenators" in the mandated "EPA gas." Adding alittle cleaner and fuel system lube (as Amsoil PI is) gives alittle piece of mind. Doing this, I've never had symtoms of clogged or dirty injectors or fuel system failures.

I was told by a freind of mine who is a service advisor at a Ford dealership to use Chevron "textron" fuel additive every 5000 miles to keep the injectors clean. It gets rid of the carbon that builds up. He's a great and smart guy that wouldn't tell me to use something that didn't work or wasn't necessary.

Chevron "techron" Every other oil change. And it does help. The first time you have to spend $600 on a single injector and knowing that the others are going bad, you will have wished you spent the extra $3.50 an oil change.

Use a Top Tier Fuel and you really do not need to worry about fuel additives. However if you want to run a bottle through every other oil Change I would suggest Redline or Techron.

I have seen these additives make good injectors bad injectors.. (that is with a car with a lot of miles on it) but I agree ... snake oil.. junk... no.. waste of money.. whatever you want to call it.. JMO along
with a couple others at this point... even the owners manual says no, read it and it will say what I just said .. don't use it...!!!

There will be lots of people who say that they use it religiously, and have never had a problem. But there are lots more who say that they never touch the stuff, and have never had a problem.
The only people who say that you need it are either those who sell it or those who believe what they have been told by those who sell it (and therefore use it religously). Not slamming those who love it; you should use it if you like it.
I have read at least two independent research reports over the years (no, I can't recall who did them; myabe consumer reports and one of the auto mags?), and neither could conclude that there was any advantage to ANY fuel of the usual fuel additives. (Do they even sell "drygas" anymore?)
