Alarm system
Hi, I just picked up a 06' mustang GT 5spd over the weekend and could use a little help on something.
I originally wanted the active anti theft but the dealer I ordered the car from from messed up my order totally and I ended up getting a car off of a lot at another dealer with everything I wanted on it EXCEPT the active anti theft. The car was perfect, just came off the truck last week, and was only showing like 6 miles on the odometer, it wasent worth waiting till god knows when for the sake of one option. After all, its spring!!
The sales guy proclaimed that it is an easy installation and it mainly a plug and play deal (just replace the existing alarm module with this one and wire a couple sensors and a siren) and is identical to the factory active system except for the bigger battery. The car has the regular alarm in it now but is missing the active theft shock/towing/interior sensors and siren benifits.
I called ford today to order the anti theft alarm from the accessory catalog, I figured for the 120 bucks and an easy install myself it would be worth it for now especially considering I wouldent have to wire much and it would offer a bit more protection. I have installed probably a dozen alarms and stereos, have worked as a tech in the past, and am an electrical/mechanical engineer. So I am perfectly capapble of doing it myself as the dealer farms them out to an alarm installer and I have ripped out some really bad installations in the past and in one case a friends car burnt to the ground because of a bad remote start install by a Ford/mercury dealer. Lets just say I trust my own work and very few others in the alarm/stereo install field.
Then I hear that the kit does not come with instructions. So I download them from a website for the VSS system, it doesent look anything like a plug and play setup! To me it looks like an aftermarket alarm that works with Ford's keyless entry system farbs.
Am I correct in saying that the accessory catalog system is not the same as the active anti-theft. Has anyone installed the accessory alarm from Ford?? Is it actually plug and play? If I am going to do a full alarm install I might as well go with a good system like Alpine or clifford. I dont know if the factory accessory system is worth the trouble at this point, a plug in install is one thing, but I am not cutting into the cars harness's for a factory style system of quenstionable value.
Am I looking at the right system from Ford? Maybe I should be ordering a different part #? The told me a 2W7Z-19A361-BA was the only kit for the car.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Nick
