Default UNDISCOVERED FREE MOD.

so apparently there is yet another way to make ur stang more powerful without spending a cent. at a recent car show, i talked to a guy that said he had zip tied his charge motion plates open, giving him more responsiveness below 3000 rpm. on the new stangs, theres a charge motion scissor mechanism that opens at 3000 rpm to give full flow, it is used as a fuel saving mechanism. he swears by it, anybody know how this would work/if u need a tune/if it would hurt the car?

i don't know how charge motion plates work/what exactly they do, can someone explain to me?

The "charge motion" plates are a factory part that fits between the intake manifold and the heads. The device alters the shape of the intake runner depending on RPM. Theoretically, it IMPROVES throttle response and power in the low-end. The downside is that it ends up restricting airflow on the top end.

At least one company (Steeda) makes some machined aluminum plates that can be used to remove this from your car. They have a standard version and one with tapped holes for direct-port injection nitrous nozzles.

Personally, I haven't messed with this. However, my understanding is that the charge motion delete is only a poential benefit at peak airflow conditions (full throttle) and only after the engine has already seen some other mods. Maybe someone with some actual experience with this can weigh in on it.

Great answer CrazyAl,.... so we'd be better off not messing with it, I take it.

if you are NA, you will actually see more low end power with the charge motion plates because they allow for the proper flow of air. at WOT replacing them wont do anything because they are wide open anyway

I ran a log with the IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) plates opening per factory programming and another with the plates programmed always open. Made no difference in 60'. According to my log they were full open at WOT instantly at launch.

They are programmed to open at 2900 rpm at .475 TP_REL. Any thing above .475 TP_REL they are full open. Removing them completely would be the only way to possibly gain hp/et.

I could feel no difference in the below 3000 rpm range.
